Summer started early this year from the beginning of May we were blessed with bright blue skies and endless days of sunshine. The glorious explosion of flowers arrived and was upon us before we knew it; I sit poised palette knife in hand trying to capture all that colour and joy. I love the long summer days, the glorious light, such opportunities and inspiration if only somehow I could “press pause” on this wonderful season.
I always say creativity is about input and summer is my time for observing, taking it all in and storing all these wonderful floral visions. I feel like I have a head full of flowers: blooms, blossoms, buds petals, tints and blushes fill every corner of my mind. I am compelled to pour out these reflections onto the pristine white canvases that wait patiently in my studio
At night the flowers colour and dance in my dreams, like beautiful spectres competing for consideration, In the early hours of the morning when dawn breaks I start to paint while the rest of the world sleeps it’s a wonderful feeling.I visit gardens and marvel at the inspired planting and breath taking flower borders. My particular favourite was a combination of roses and lavender at Sandwich’s Salutation Garden. Bathed in sunshine against a backdrop of wild meadow this image left me speechless and my homage is the painting Salutation.
